PC Gamers Excited, PS2 Gamers Disappointed

Postby Cobalt Katze » 10/13/2002 @ 10:52 PM

In a news article from Gamers.com:

According to GamePro.com, Square president Yoichi Wada stated that the PC version of their MMORPG Final Fantasy XI, which releases in Japan on November 7th, will be coming to the U.S.

However, no concrete plans were laid for a U.S. release. The game originated on the PlayStation 2; it's been available in Japan since March. FFXI appeared at May's E3 show in L.A. -- on display in Sony's booth -- but no plans were ever announced to bring the game to the U.S. As time passes, the release of the PS2 version seems ever more unlikely.

That is sad, but I have been saying for months that a PS2 version wouldn't happen. We can all thank the HDD requirements, because there is no way in hell Sony is going to release a peripheral that expensive over here.

Guess I'll just start counting down to the PC release then. :mad

Dont get all in a tissy yet. This is not a solid statement that the PS2 version will not see a US release.

See Sony is still trying to figure out how to do the HD over here. They dont want to make the HDD for the US as the cost and low numbers of units hasnt been a rewarding endeavor in Japan. They are still looking at using regular hard drives and supplying format discs to make them usable with the PS2's version of unix. Also consider the fact that EQ is in development for the PS2 and well Sony owns some of that pie, so it would be in their interest to get something working.

I for myself prefer the PC version anyways. Better graphics and framerate as well as not needing to shell out cash for a HD, keybrd, and modem for my PS2.

Dont count you chickens before they are hatched and wait for an offical word stating it bluntly that a PS2 US release has been canceled.

obviously you didnt read my post. They havent done it yet. Only speculation and rumor. Once its fact you can proceed to whine and piss and moan all you want justly.

Sure it doesnt look to good for a PS2 release, but like I said EQ is coming to the PS2 and I cant imagine it all woring off the disc without a HD.
