FF14: Chaos in Japan

Postby Sheogorath » 11/02/2010 @ 11:39 PM

I apologize beforehand to any FF14 fans out there, but this article was WAY too funny not to post:

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/11/0 ... x-quality/ (Watch out, there are NSFW ads on the site)

Seems that when Squarenix implemented a history feature, they found out that all of the big name official players that wrote manga based on FF14 whom said they were big players were actually not playing the game at all.

A follow up story:

Seems like it's a sinking ship.

The game has potential. It needed another few months of testing I think.

Really? You have to be the kindest player I've seen of it, since it's getting absolutely torn apart by the community.

I had to laugh when they found untranslated chinese dialog in the Japanese version of the game, proving gamers suspicions that it was outsourced to a chinese software designer.

And here I thought Sega bungled PSU.

Does untranslated Chinese dialog indicate that it was outsourced? I won't argue on whether it was or not, but I would expect that even if it was outsourced there had to have been a language requirement for the dialog as a part of the outsourcing. It wouldn't make sense to let the development group insert the dialog in whatever language they wanted so it could all be changed later somewhere else for the release.

Well, when you factor in the anti-grinding experience time/cap that they had to put in due to chinese anti-internet addiction law and it does seem a bit fishy.
